I would like to introduce my new feature for mum revelations featuring YOU.
Sharing a little about you in words and photos.
Today I would like you to meet a Mum from Brisbane KATIE POLI.
1. Where do you live?
Brisbane, Australia
2. What is special about where you live?
Brissie is a great city that still holds a bit of a ‘small town’ vibe but is really growing up! We live about 12 minutes from the city in a lovely suburban area, with easy access to everything. I am also a true ‘Queenslander’ when it comes to the weather, so our mild winters and warm summers suit me to a tee! Finally, who could ask for more than the stunning beaches both north and south?!
3. Do you work? If so what do you do? Or are you a WAHM or SAHM?
I am a WAHM juggling a number of different jobs, including piano/music teaching, research assistant work, music typesetting, and promoting/managing my husband’s children’s artwork business(Giuseppe Poli – Artist…
4. What is your favourite childhood memory?
Long holidays with my family at my grandparents’ beach ‘shack’ down the Gold Coast… bliss!
5. What are some memories that you have or like to create for your children?
Lots of laughter, music and art, great family days out and fun holidays!
6. Name 3 of your favourite activities or something you enjoy doing with your family?
I love going to funky markets, spending time catching up with close friends and family, and hanging around the house – playing peekaboo, reading books or dancing!
7. Describe your perfect day?
I’m pretty easy to please, as long as I don’t have to rush, clean or work (being a WAHM means that weekends are usually filled with finding time to squeeze in work!).
Hmmm… perfect day… a bit of a sleep in (c/o my hubbie taking the early shift in toddler-wrangling!), a slow morning with delicious omelettes for brekkie… then a trip to the park for a play, home for Oscar’s sleep (and maybe a nanna nap – they are so rare these days!). Spending the afternoon with friends or family is fabulous, or going for a drive… in summer we love finding somewhere to go swimming… sometimes just playing in the backyard watching the sunset is the nicest way to spend the afternoon!
8. Where is your favourite holiday destination?
With all the money in the world – Europe (Italy/France in particular)
On our normal family budget – my parents’ beachfront unit at the Gold Coast
9. From memory what was your favourite birthday and why?
I do enjoy birthdays, and I had a blast for my 30th… it was on Easter Sunday, so there was not only presents but also chocolate (who could ask for more?!). A few weeks later I had a pirate party – complete with huge cardboard ship, treasure chest, and a pirate ship cake… everyone came in costume and we had a fabulous evening!
10. What is your favourite product for kids and why?
I’m a big fan of handmade/unique clothing, and when it comes to toys I love anything wooden or any musical instrument, particularly percussion instruments… children are born to explore and create, and percussion instruments encourage so much movement, rhythm and creativity!
11. What is one product you have bought that you did not need but just had to have?
Hmm… where do I start? Most of my handbags! Lol! Baby-wise, I am carrier obsessed so I may have a few that I don’t totally “need” however I have used them all and love them! I have also recently spent a bit of money on musical instruments (mostly fun kids percussion), which are not necessary but are brilliant!
12. Your favourite kids fashion label?
How can I pick? As I said, I love handmade things, so I buy from local markets and online WAHM businesses… there are too many to start listing!
13. What is your child’s favourite meal?
Dinner-wise - either grilled fish or chicken schnitzel… and plain pasta without sauce!
However, he has his mother’s sweet tooth so he is quite obsessive when it comes to cakes and biscuits… at 18months 4 of the words he knows are ‘butter’, ‘egg’, ‘cake’ and ‘mix’… oops J
14. Are you a fashion conscious mother? If so what is your favourite label?
Is this the same as Q 11? I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m fashion conscious when it comes to labels, but I do like to dress Oscar in funky, sometimes slightly ‘different’ clothes – hence the reason we shop a lot online and at handmade markets.
15. What is the best thing about being a mother?
Cuddles and giggles J I just love the little person that we have created and who changes and surprises us every day… he can be frustrating and hard work, but he is the funniest little creature, and he constantly makes me laugh!
15. To finish off would you like to add a favourite photo?
Thank you for sharing Katie.
